1. Our Commitment
Beginners' Call Cymru is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all children and young people.
We recognise our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all members and will take all concerns seriously.
2. Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to:

All staff and volunteers

Group leaders and team members
-
Young people involved in the group

Parents and carers attending activities
3. Definition of Safeguarding
Safeguarding means:

Protecting children from harm, abuse, and neglect

Ensuring they grow up in safe environments

Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
4. Code of Conduct
To maintain a safe environment:
Adults must:

Treat all young people with respect and kindness
-
Act as positive role models
-
Listen to young people and take concerns seriously

Avoid being alone with a child where possible

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
Adults must not:
-
Engage in inappropriate or harmful behaviour
-
Use abusive, discriminatory, or inappropriate language
-
Develop inappropriate relationships with young people
5. Behaviour Expectations
Beginners' Call Cymru promotes a supportive, welcoming, and drama-free ethos.

Unkind or harmful behaviour from members or parents will not be tolerated

Action may be taken, including removal from the group where necessary
6. Reporting Concerns
If a safeguarding concern arises:

All concerns must be taken seriously
-
Concerns should be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

If the concern involves the DSL, it should be reported to another responsible adult or external authority.
7. Responding to Concerns
If a child discloses something:

Listen carefully and stay calm

Reassure them they have done the right thing

Record what was said (as accurately as possible)

Do not promise confidentiality

Do not investigate yourself
Appropriate action will be taken, which may include:

Contacting parents/carers
-
Referring to external safeguarding services
8. Health and Safety at Activities
We aim to:

Provide safe rehearsal and performance environments

Ensure venues are appropriate and accessible
-
Supervise young people appropriately
9. Online Safety
When using social media or online platforms:

Content shared will be appropriate and respectful
-
Personal information of young people will not be shared without consent
-
Communication with young people will remain appropriate and transparent
10. Photography and Media

Photos/videos may be taken for promotional purposes

Consent will be obtained from parents/carers where required
-
Images will be used responsibly and appropriately
11. Review of Policy
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and up to date.
